MERLIN'S RESCUE STORY "I rescued Merlin on 2nd December 2002. He was kept in a small cage and only fed sunflower seeds. He's petrified of hands, especially males. It's obvious he's been hit - not only by the fear of a hand - especially 1 higher than your chest, but his beak was also badly damaged with one side shattered. It's taken Merlin a while to get used to his big cage and to learn what toys are. Several hours a day I have him out of the cage to explore and flap his wings which are badly clipped. Thankfully his wings and beak are growing back nicely and he's even starting to eat more variety. He'll even take a grape from my hand now! Merlin still has a long way to go, but by the time my bite wounds heal, he'll have learned he's here to stay no matter what and we'll never hurt him." --Annmarie Pottrell of the UK |
